Giving  God  First  Place

“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night…” – Joshua 1:8 (NKJV)

The Oxford Dictionary states that a ‘Prophet’ is a person regarded as an inspired teacher or proclaimer of God’s will. Some of these inspiring people/Prophets kept God’s words, thus giving Him first place in their lives, including Jeremiah, Isaiah, Moses, Abraham, Ezekiel, Joshua, etc.

We need an anchor to hold us secure in our spiritual lives. When  God called  Joshua to lead His people after Moses’ death, He gave him anchors of promise that he could rely on in troubled times. The Lord said to him, “…I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you…Only be strong and very courageous that you may observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded you…This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth…the Lord your God is with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:5-9 – NKJV). Because they trusted God, God also gave  Joshua and his people ‘the Book of the Law’ to study and observe. Hence, the Israelites could rely on and put God first as they faced many challenges.

Although our faith may feel weak, if it’s anchored in God’s plans, presence, promises, and the teachings of His words, He will safely hold us up. Isaiah also prophesied God’s promises of ‘victory’ to us: “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you .” (Isaiah 43:2 – NKJV)

Jeremiah also reminds us, “Call unto me and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knoweth not” (Jeremiah 33:3 – KJV).

Prayer

Almighty and most precious Father, thank You for Your unconditional love and grace. Thank You for the inspirational leaders in the Bible. Help us grow as we read your Word. Lord, You have given us total spiritual freedom when we were once bruised and scarred by sin. We are now free to worship You and avoid sin in Jesus’ name. So let the words of our mouths and the meditation of our hearts be acceptable in Your sight. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
